BIG KID ?

    I've been back into building model cars for a few years now. I started because I didn't have the room or the money to restore real cars like I once did. I also wanted the die cast model cars that were in the car magazines, but I couldn't justify the money they wanted for them. So off I went. I found a lot of the plastic model kits that were of interest to me, cars from the 30's, 40's, 50's &60's, so I started buying and building.
    I built the cars like I did in the 60's, with coat thread for engine wiring, dime store felt for the interior and hand painted the chrome with silver paint. Then, one day I heard of a model contest going on in the next town. I kind of figured I'd be too old to enter, but I packed up a few models anyway and off I went. When I got there I was floored with what I saw; the work and detail that went into these models were simply awesome. Well, I entered the contest, and took home a couple of 2nd, 3rd & 4th place ribbons, probably because there weren't many other cars entered in the same category that I was in. But more importantly, I learned a lot; like the different model car magazines out there, metal foils, after market items and so on. As well as, I wasn't the only grown man going through adolescence again playing with his toys. Ha. Ha. Ha.
    Well anyway it's been a couple of years since then, and I think I've gotten better at building, enough were I've placed 1st at a few contests I've entered. I still enjoy building my model cars, and I'm still in awe over the workmanship that a lot of the guys and gals put in their models, and to, in knowing, I'm not the only big kid there.
